Baby vacation

Posted by kara

Well, I am officially on baby vacation. I told everyone at work that I am starting my maternity leave tomorrow. It’s not that I can’t work anymore or that I’m dying of discomfort. I can work, but that’s about all I can do. Meaning: at the end of the day when I walk through our apartment door, my back hurts and I’m so tired that Paul has to do everything. So Paul and I figured that if I can rest during the day and get some stuff done around home, then I’ll be ready at any time of day to have the baby (not just on weekends). Because she really is going to come any minute now. Really.

I’m a bit sad to leave work. I will miss being in on the office talk and hanging out with my buddies Laura and Aaron. I also have this really crazy worker part of me that wants to make sure all my projects end up perfect. I know my coworker can handle it, but I’d rather do it myself. I just need to not think about it. Maybe I’ll write him an email to call me if he has any questions…

On the other hand, I feel like I can do anything now– stay up late, sleep in, take naps, go for a slow walk… And that is a good feeling. I think this probably is the most vacation-y part of my maternity leave. I better enjoy it!

Today was also the day of baby gifts. I met up with Mandy for lunch and she delivered a baby shower gift that my mom had shipped to her house. It was a couple of cute outfits! I think baby clothes is my favorite part so far… it’s so fun to imagine how cute and cuddly she will be in her tiny little baby clothes. Yay! Also, we received a very mysterious package from Paul’s parents. It says we can’t open it until the baby is born. Man oh man! This baby has to come soon!

Maybe she will come tomorrow. She can be part of the 5% of babies born on their actual due date. I have a doctor appointment tomorrow afternoon. Paul is going with me. I am hoping that my doctor will magically tell me that I’m all ready and to just step over to the hospital because it is time to deliver a little Sandwich. I know that won’t happen… but I’m still hoping.

In the meantime, I’m on the lookout for some fresh pineapple. Savy says that may help induce labor and I’m willing to try that delicious suggestion!
