Pregnant = not vacation
Posted by kara
There are definitely perks to being pregnant. I feel special, privileged, even entitled… People are actually eager to help. My phone rings now. I can eat like crazy and I get encouraged to gain weight. I have a visible excuse for looking like a slob in my sweats and sneakers. Paul gives me back rubs without me asking. Plus, I am actually more vocal and decisive about what I need/want.
And yet, my baby vacation does not feel like vacation. (Although I did get to go out to lunch with UB today.) At night, when I wake up at 1 or 2 am, I just pray that the night will go by fast. Then when I wake up at 3 or 4, I hope that this will be the last time I have to walk to the bathroom and try not to slip near the front door. Then when I wake up at 5 or 6, I celebrate that I’ve made it through another restless night and that soon it will be time to wake up for real. At least I know that I can take a nap during the day.
The rest of the day is spent trying to ease my pains and stomachaches, and still accomplish something helpful. I think I’m now on the verge of being really uncomfortable. I have no idea why the baby isn’t realizing that she’s shoving all my insides around which means there is no more room. She is still an active baby and I love that about her. However, it’s starting to get pretty uncomfortable and almost unnerving.
I need a vacation from being pregnant!
