After-Hours Clinic Visit #1

Posted by kara

I finally called the doctor’s office about Toshi’s dry skin on her face. Since it was the weekend, my call was taken by an after-hours nurse. I answered her laundry-list of questions and it pointed to “See a doctor within the next 24 hours.” So Paul cut his workout short, and I told Mandy we couldn’t meet up today. We drove to the hospital and registered with the after-hours clinic. While registering, we overheard that the nurse was sick but working until 6:00pm. Interesting…

Anyway, one of the highlights of the visit was that Toshi got weighed. She clocks in at an impressive 10.8 lbs! Seems pretty heavy! I looked up Liam’s weight and he was 12 lbs, 13 oz at 2 months. So I wonder what Toshi will be in 3 weeks when she is 2 months old!

After she was weighed, we saw the nurse. The nurse had on one of those mouth masks. Nice. (Toshi better not get sick from her!) The nurse asked some questions and left. Then the doctor came in. She asked more questions and deduced that it was probably eczema because my brothers had it and because Toshi doesn’t have cradle cap. At one point, she had Toshi sitting up and I had to do everything in my power to keep myself from yelling, “You’re not supporting her head! It’s going to snap!!” Luckily it did not snap. But it could have.

So we are supposed to get some ointment and apply it to her dry spots. I think it isn’t too serious because it doesn’t bother Toshiko. From what I’ve read, it seems that most baby problems resolve themselves without medical treatment. That is both a blessing and a curse I think. My new worry is that Toshi has GERD. [Yes, I’m a hypochondriac and that applies to my daughter’s health as well. Hence this entry being called “Visit #1” – there will be more!] I read about baby GERD and they say it usually resolves itself by ONE YEAR OF AGE. So babies have to live with it for a year! It’s probably just spit up. She just seems so fussy and spit-up-y these past two days. I’m hoping it was just the Belgian chocolate UB made me eat. Who knows?

Okay, and now 2 pics from my mom:

Have a wonderful Christmas!
