Five weeks!
Posted by kara
We are now at five weeks. I remember when six weeks sounded so far away… and now it’s less than a week away! Which means that Christmas is less than a week away… which means that Christmas presents will arrive way late to the Indy crew. (Sorry in advance.)
Anyway, back to five weeks. I feel like I am finally a mom. It took a month, but here I am: somewhat able to decode Toshi’s cries and fully enamored by my little girl. I know that I’m totally biased in thinking that Toshi is the cutest baby. But I also somewhat truly believe that she really is the cutest baby. That must be a sign that I’m a mom, right?
She is starting to do stuff. It may sound like little stuff to you, but it feels like big stuff compared to the limited actions of sleeping/pooping/feeding/crying. The best thing is her smile. She has such a pure smile – I feel like I won the lottery whenever I see it. It is the most rewarding thing. AJ is right that her smiling does make the day easier. I’ve gotten her to smile two days in a row by singing Row, Row, Row Your Boat to her at 10am.
Toshi is also stretching a lot. She likes to have her arms flopping at her sides. And she is starting to consistently find her hands. She loves sucking on the backs of her hands, on her fists, or on her random fingers that she can get into her mouth. It’s hilarious because she makes such loud sucking/smacking noises.
Another thing is her voice. Sometimes when I listen to the monitor, it’s alarming because she will make a cry that sounds like someone talking. I get really confused at night (sleep deprivation) so it takes a couple of seconds for me to realize that it’s just Toshi on the monitor.
Oh, and another great thing is that she is growing. I can tell because she is taking up more room on the changing table. And she is heavier. I hope I grow stronger as she grows bigger. She can be quite hefty at times… like when I try to carry her in the car seat or when I’m dancing with her for hours. But I actually do like that she’s getting bigger. She’s more cuddly now, so I can hug her when I burp her. Toshi loves hugs! (At least, that is what her favorite pj’s say.)
Okay, those are some of the small things. My mom sent me some pics, so here are a couple. Doesn’t Toshi look tiny in this family picture?
And you can see the Christmas pajamas I bought for her at Target. I love them!
