Hooray!

Where have I been? On the couch, holding a sleeping Toshi, trying not to wake her up. Pacing around the apartment, holding Toshi, trying to get her to sleep. Dancing in front of our stereo, holding Toshi, trying to entertain her. While she believes in sleeping in the crib at night (thank goodness) she does not see why she shouldn’t be held at all times during the day. This seriously limits my blogging time. I have, however, quickly learned some parenting tricks like using your feet to pull the coffee table closer so you can reach the remote or like making sure you have a plethora of snacks within reach of the couch in case you end up sitting on the couch for hours.
Anyway, it has been exhausting being alone all day. Blair was absolutely right that the afternoons feel like they take FOREVER to go by. I start my Daddy-comes-home-from-work countdown at 1:00. It gets pretty depressing because it feels like I’ve made it way more than halfway through the day by then, but really, Paul doesn’t get home until 6:30. I’ve only had 2 full days alone and I think on the second day it was already getting better. So things aren’t so shabby. I just don’t get anything else done. Luckily Paul is super understanding. I thought I’d be able to cook wonderful well-balanced dinners and keep the house clean and organize all of our junk. Boy was I wrong! I am lucky if I can warm up a frozen meal that our moms left us. The best days are when Aunt Karen stops by. Then I can get a few small things done while she holds and calms Toshi. It really helps me feel less tired too. Yay!
Speaking of yay, my family is coming into town in 8 hours! I am so excited. Toshi will finally get to meet her Grandpa Irland, Uncle David and Aunt Molly. Plus I miss my mom always, so this will be such a wonderful long weekend.
Today I took Toshi to my work. I felt like I had accomplished a minor miracle when I waltzed through the door on time with a clean baby. Seriously, I felt satisfaction and pride equivalent to winning a trophy in tennis or getting top scores on all final exams. Everyone at work said that Toshi was very cute, which is probably a mandatory compliment, but I’m sure they actually meant it about my baby. Heh! She is so cute! It was so good to see everyone. Plus I got to catch up with my buddy Laura and hear the latest office news: Nick at work is expecting his first baby next spring! I’m so excited for him and can’t wait to hear how it goes for him and his wife.
Okay, I should probably go to bed. Have a great weekend!
