The new marathon

Posted by kara

I think I read somewhere that being pregnant is like a marathon: it takes endurance and there is an end to it (eventually). Then I think they also said that labor was also like a marathon. Both statements felt true. There were uncomfortable, hard times, but I knew that they would come to an end.

Now, I think we’ve entered yet another marathon. A marathon of newborn fussiness that isn’t so much physical, as it is psychological. Paul tells me that Toshi is not a fussy baby, and I know that is probably true. I am sure that she would be considered a breeze by Liam-standards. However, when the clock strikes 4, I start to get nervous. I know that she will start crying and that nothing will calm her. It feels like each minute of her crying raises my stress level exponentially. Luckily, Paul doesn’t get stressed out. He tries to calm her while I run around in circles and check my books and the internet for any calming solutions. I hope that Grandma & Grandpa Mealy have some good solutions that I can master before they leave me all alone on Thursday.

Anyway, it’s hard to think that a little baby can get the best of me. Look at her. She’s so small and she makes funny faces.
