Good luck

Today is one of my favorite days of the year because it revolves around good luck Japanese food. I take this tradition very seriously. In fact, Paul might believe I’m a little crazy for seriously insisting that we don’t eat anything before our good luck soup. It’s just something that has been ingrained in me since childhood. That’s how we roll.
Since we didn’t go back home for Christmas, we didn’t get any fresh homemade mochi. Of course, UB was prepared and generously gave me some mochi from the store. I made a pretty pathetic ozoni good luck soup, but it was lucky nonetheless!
After eating our soup, Paul and I got ready to go to Dave & Toni’s house for more good luck food. Uncle Bill said they really cut back this year, but once again, the table was packed with food. Some of it scary, but most of it delicious! I kept taking pictures, but they kept adding food!
(I had to include these little treats Marissa made because they are so cute.)
When I saw this on the table, I yelled at UB. How could he do this? How could he put these on the table? Yikes! It took me about 10 mins to calm down and then another hour to be able to ignore them.
And here is UB feasting on his meal. Just kidding. But look at all of the food! Thanks to everyone who helped make this huge New Year’s meal. It was delicious and we are grateful to have such talented cooks as family and friends.
And in case you were wondering: yes, Paul and I had a wild New Year’s Eve.
That’s right. Look closely and you’ll notice it’s sparkling cider. It was too close to Toshi’s next feeding to have the real stuff. We quietly listened to the top 100 rock songs on some radio station. The #1 song = Free Bird. At around 11, we hit the hay.
As I look back on 2007, I think it was the weirdest year of my life. There were so many surprises/learning experiences/life changes. It was hard, but in an amazing kind of way. I am so lucky to have Paul… he made this year a good experience for me. We survived and look what we have now:
