336 months

I think I’m 336 months old, but I’m not sure the math on that is correct. I’m too tired to figure it out for sure. Feel free to correct me on this one. I’m 84 times Toshi’s age! Anyway, on Saturday, AK, UD, and K^2 came over. We left them with a tired Toshi. As Paul was driving to the restaurant, I started guessing where we were going. For some reason he said something that made me think we were going to the Herb Farm. He said that he thought I didn’t want to go somewhere that fancy. I agreed! I was not awake enough for the Herb Farm’s 8-course, 5- hour meal. He said that Minoru liked this restaurant and that we had been there once before. I saw that we were not headed downtown… it looked like we were going to Fremont. It all clicked in my head and I knew we were going to Chiso! I think Paul was impressed with my fine puzzling skills. Professor Layton’s apprentice saves the day!

Anyway, we got there about 10 minutes early. So we walked around until Chiso opened. I thought we’d be the first ones in there, but there were already a couple tables taken. Everything on the menu looked good. We got yakitori, a special oishi roll, spicy tuna roll, veggie tempura roll, and ended with a Seattle roll (my favorite). Everything tasted delicious. The veggie roll was tricky because it wouldn’t come apart easily, and it was one of those wide rolls. I kept trying to bite it, but wouldn’t break. So I’d end up shoving it all into my mouth and nearly choking on the sticky seaweed. After a couple of pieces, I realized that they had double wrapped the seaweed! And the rice was super sticky– like glue. How do people eat those rolls? Anyway, when we left, I found out that I was a lot fuller than I thought. Still, I wanted dessert.

We crossed the crazy intersection and went to a place called Simply Desserts. I got a blackbottom cupcake to go. We looked at the time and felt like we hadn’t been gone long enough. AK told us to take our time. It was barely over an hour. So I thought about what I wanted to do… too cold for a walk… gas is too pricey for a drive… but wait… if we did grocery shopping it would save us a trip on Sunday! So we headed to Fred Meyer and walked the crowded aisles. I felt slightly foolish for going grocery shopping on my birthday date, but the idea of getting heavy groceries and not having to push a stroller around completely outweighed any feelings of nerdiness.

We got home around 8 and saw that UB had joined in the fun. Toshi was asleep and AK said she was pretty good. Phew. And they left a ton of food for us– pizza and Chunky Monkey muffins.

Paul and I watched Atonement and I ate my blackbottom cupcake. The cupcake was good, but I prefer my mom’s mini blackbottom cupcakes. We think that my brother Paul could totally put Simply Desserts out of business. Anyway, the movie was nice to watch. I liked a lot of how it was filmed. However, I wasn’t really into the characters and didn’t really care. The ending was fine. I know Ariana and Gwen didn’t like the ending. I thought it was okay. Reminded me of Titanic? And I guess I kind of liked that the lady wanted to make peace her own way and I liked that I thought she was a little full of herself for that.

Overall, it was a great night– thanks AK UD K^2! We really appreciated it!

(Sorry, no pics this time.)
