My big day

Posted by kara

Today is my birthday. It’s hard to believe how fast these last few years have gone. I still think of myself as 24, but then I realize that it’s my baby brother who is 24. It’s amazing how much things have changed. My birthday is starting to feel more relaxed. I packed my lunch because I knew that I’d choose spending time with Toshi over eating some good food for my birthday treat. Anyway, I ended up feeding Toshi her bottle and cleaning her poor runny nose during my lunch break. Then I ate my packed lunch with Laura. Oh, and when I got into work this morning, my buddies were in the middle of decorating my door with signs:

They found a picture of Toshi on my computer and taped on a party hat on her and a happy birthday message. Very crafty. And of course, Laura’s two pugs also wanted to wish me a happy birthday.

Then Laura tricked me and said she was going to see a client, but really she went and got Trophy cupcakes. I tried a quarter of a chai one (kinda weird for a cupcake) and half of a mint chocolate and a quarter of a vanilla. The mint chocolate was delicious. Then there was a nice little chat about Magnolia Bakery because Patricia had stopped there in NY after seeing the long line out the door.

Anyway, I picked up Toshi at daycare and had another slow drive due to traffic. It ended up working out though, because I was able to talk to both Blair and Tex. It was nice to catch up. Last night I had a dream that Tex and Emma flew out for my birthday and then Blair and Norah showed up as a surprise. If only…

We picked up Paul at work. He had a bag full of groceries in case I didn’t know what I wanted for dinner. He sure knows me! So I tried to entertain hungry Toshi while he made dinner. She seems to like the Peek-a-Who book that my parents gave her. We gave her a bath and decided she is too big for the sink. Hopefully we’ll remember to get her a bath tub seat this weekend. Anyway, I fed Toshi for over half an hour and missed 6 phone calls! After putting her down, Paul and I ate dinner. I started to open up gifts, but Toshi’s coughing was out of control. He went in and held her until she fell asleep. While he was doing that, I started blogging and eating cookies that he made.

Then Moe called. Turns out I talked to all of Paul’s siblings and none of mine. My whole family called while I was feeding Toshi! Nuts.

Okay, now I’m off to finish opening gifts and eat some Chunky Monkey ice cream! Thanks for another great birthday!
