Waiting to see

Toshi Anne is 5 months old today! I’m very happy that she has reached this milestone. It seems that she is no longer a small baby. Just a medium baby.

I did catch her rolling over the other day. Toshi in action:

That bin that we got on the Ikea trip, is now filled with her baby clothes that she has outgrown. I thought I was being overly generous with the size I chose. Turns out, her clothes almost fill up the whole thing. I thought there’d be room enough for all of her 3-6 month clothes. Nope. The bin also has a great illustration that helps remind me not to put babies in it.

Little Toshiko is also grabbing her foot. She uses her left hand and grabs her left foot. When I was changing her into her p-jammers tonight, she grabbed her foot and I could tell she wanted to put it in her mouth. She isn’t quite able to yet. Here she is earlier today kind of grabbing her foot.

Another side story: baby dreads. I hesitate to admit this, but this blog is all about keepin’ it real. So yeah, my baby has dread locks. Kinda. Her hair is so baby fine and long. The back of it gets all tangled/matted/knotted from her laying on her back. I tried to pull the knots apart, but it doesn’t always work and I worry about pulling her hair. I bought some detangler, but that doesn’t seem to do anything. Paul managed to get most of the tangles out… it still has the tendency to get dread-lock-y though.

Okay, main story: Today I went to visit Toshi on my lunch hour. I noticed they had posted a new sheet saying that one of the kids had some illness where a fever goes away and then a rash sets in. I think it goes away by itself after a couple of days. I thought, “Oh great. I hope she doesn’t get that.” Then I noticed another sheet next to that one. It said that one of the kids had chicken pox! When I got to Toshi’s room, her teacher Michal said that she was worried. She said that Rebecca has chicken pox. [I refer to Rebecca as Toshi’s best friend because they are in the same classroom and they are only 1 week apart.] Michal said that on Friday they were laying next to each other. That goes pretty much without saying. I know that Toshi and Rebecca always hang out together. Nuts. So when I got back to the office, I looked up chicken pox and it said that it’s highly contagious and usually symptoms show up about 2 weeks after exposure. So I feel like I’m just waiting for it to hit. I really hope she doesn’t get it. I don’t want her to suffer. She’s already toughing out her congestion. She is such a good girl! Even though she has a bad cough and it’s hard for her to breathe, she still smiles and laughs a ton.
