Our Phelpsian Weekend
Posted by paul
This week our visitors were Paul’s parents and brother Moe. [This is Kara writing. I’m on Paul’s computer because he has my computer for his conference trip in San Francisco.] They arrived late on Friday night. Toshi and I were already asleep.
On Saturday Toshi woke up her visitors bright and early. We were all tired and I think all of us slept during her morning nap. That afternoon we went to the Locks and Golden Gardens. Everyone had the same idea– there were two weddings at GG and about fifty picnics. It was packed. After nearly being killed by a diving kite, we decided to leave the park for the safety of our hot hot apartment. We topped off our night with burritos and the Olympics. Oh, and I finally had some ice cream buddies to indulge in some double churn cookie dough ice cream with.
Sunday was nice. We did the market and then Maggie’s Bluff for lunch outside. It was very beautiful. That night Paul’s parents told us they’d watch Toshi so that we could go out. There weren’t any movies out that we wanted to see, so we most wanted to go to my bro’s house to play video games and watch TV with the volume up. (Welcome to parenthood.) We ended up playing some Fast Scrabble (or is it Speed Scrabble?) and then watched The Wire Season 5! Yesssss! It was nice to theoretically not worry about the gunfire noise waking up Toshi.
On Monday Paul went into work. The rest of us walked around Ballard. Somehow Toshi ended up with a couple of fun gifts… I guess that is what happens when grandparents are around! After playing with her new xylophone (Paul has been wanting to get one for Toshi) and Uncle Moe’s shoes, we went to see the sights of Fremont. Troll, rocket, Lenin, center of the universe, canal. Grandpa Mike held Toshi the whole time and she sweetly rewarded him with lots of kisses. I love when she shows her affectionate side!
Toshi really enjoyed having her grandparents and uncle over. She looked through her family picture book that AJ made and laughed and smiled when she saw her grandparents’ page and her Uncle Moe’s page. I know she misses them already.
We also miss Paul! He is leaving straight from work for his 3-day San Francisco trip. I’m sure he’ll be hard at work, learning more about Flash. Either that or he’ll be celebrating Beef’s 30th birthday! Maybe both.
