The 24 hour challenge

Posted by kara

Okay, so it wasn’t *really* a challenge… but I must give my Aunt Karen, Uncle Dave, Katie and Kristen props for watching Toshi for 24 hours straight. They said she was pretty good, which is what every parent wants to hear. Whenever I leave Toshi with someone, I mostly worry that she’ll be crazy and not sleep or eat. When we saw her this afternoon, it seemed like she was happy to see us, but just as content to hang out with AK.

On Saturday, Paul and I loaded the car with every possible baby item: food, clothes, formula, booster seat, spoons, bottles, monitor, changing pad, extra car seat, stuffed animals, cds, baby toiletries, etc. It was a TON of stuff compared to our small bags of our own overnight stuff. We dropped off Toshi and wished them luck.

We arrived at La Conner before our check-in time. So we parked close to First Street (the street with all the shops) and walked around. It was really fun. I enjoyed looking at the little shops of jewelry, art, wood stuff, books, and clothes. I bought a gift for Blair and that’s it! But I also found an artist I like: Rie Muñoz.

I started to get super hungry, so we went to the bakery that I had planned on going to. I was kind of disappointed because everything was sweet and disgustingly big. I had already eaten M&Ms on the car ride, so I was thirsty. I hurriedly decided on the freshly squeezed lemonade to go. It tasted like regular lemonade. And I must say, there is nothing like an ice-cold lemonade on a cold October day…

We didn’t take too many pictures. La Conner was cute and nice, but not very photogenic. It actually had potential for a nice shot at night because it was empty/simple. But I didn’t take the camera to dinner, so we just have Paul’s iPhone photos.

We stayed at Wild Iris Inn, a very nice B&B. I was relieved to find that it was nicely decorated and felt very clean. They also had fantastic cookies! And the breakfast was also pretty delicious. I felt like the trip was exactly what I thought it would be and maybe even a little better. Paul and I had another great anniversary. But it was also my first time being away from Toshi for a day, so I did miss her a lot. I couldn’t wait to hold her again!

And as we unpacked Toshi’s stuff, we found this t-shirt… I wonder who it is from…

(Shiro is a much better sport about modeling. Toshi doesn’t like to get changed.)
