Shoyu and sugar… and MOCHI

Posted by kara

I hope David reads this blog because I always picture him chanting “shoyu and sugar… and mochi!” by our microwave.

Today we went to the Mochi Festival on Bainbridge Island. Paul’s friend from work invited us to go and we thought it would be fun. Plus I’ve been looking for an excuse to check out Bainbridge. We got to the ferry with a sleeping Toshi. It was her morning nap and it lasted about 40 mins. Whenever we were in the car part of the ferry, I kept thinking about the Grey’s Anatomy where the ferry crashes. Our ferry ride went well though. Look at these cute little girls!

We got to the festival about a half hour into it and it was already pretty packed. It was held at a place called IslandWood and it was beautiful– on a hill, tall trees, nice building, open outside area. Plus I liked their bathroom sinks and soap.

Lots of people were watching three volunteers pounding the mochi. I couldn’t really see what was so funny (I think someone went out of turn and almost hit someone?) but I held the camera up and got some pics.

We waited a long time for our mochi package. Toshi just wanted to run around the whole time. She did stop long enough to hang out with her baby friend Yuuma.

We had a great time! I pulled a Mommy and took a nap on the ferry. Toshi pulled a Toshi and fell asleep 2 minutes away from our house. Now she refuses to take an afternoon nap. So long, schedule!
