Toshi and I went away for about 5 days to visit my parents/grandma and go to Molly’s baby shower. By the time we got back home, Paul said that it seemed like Toshi was talking more. I guess he is right. I’m finding that Toshi can understand a lot of what I’m saying and respond. When she was a baby, I felt like I was talking to myself. A little while ago, I felt like I was talking both sides of the conversation so Toshi would know what kind of response to give. Now, I can say something and Toshi can respond to it with her own words/opinion.

It’s a little weird. She’ll say something and at first I’ll either not know what she is saying or I’ll think she’s not correct. Then once I figure out what she is saying, I realize that she is right. Yesterday we were at Target and she was holding a bunch of items in the cart. I was distracted by shopping and she told me she dropped it. I looked and saw all the items still in the cart and told her, “No, you didn’t drop it. It’s still there.” Then later, I noticed her hair clip was missing. She must have pulled out her hair clip and dropped it. I searched the floor, but couldn’t find it because I couldn’t remember when she told me she dropped it.

Then today I was singing part of a Backyardigan’s episode, but I only knew one line. She started singing something and once I figured out what she was saying, I realized that it was another part of the episode (or maybe another part of the song). She has a really good memory.

Okay, now for a little trip recap. The plane rides were both fine. The worst part is probably getting through security. There is a lot of stuff to take out/apart/move and then repack/reassemble all the while trying to make sure Toshi doesn’t run away as part of her fun fun chase game. The portable DVD player only worked for about 15 minutes, which was very disappointing. (Or I should say that Toshi’s attention span only worked for 15 minutes.)

Toshi is at an age that she can interact more with people, so she had lots of fun seeing Uncle Ken and Aunt Ann. She really loved hugging Uncle Ken and even asked about him the next day. Toshi also got to run around with cute Reese, which is her favorite activity.

Great Grandma Toshi, Oba, Toshi, and I went to the zoo. We saw zebras and she even got to ride on one.

Unfortunately, the train wasn’t working… but she still got to wrestle with a cub.

Uncle David and Aunt Molly arrived. Uncle David played chase with Toshi and got her all riled up before her bedtime. Toshi was also very curious about Aunt Molly’s baby belly. She kept looking under her shirt, asking Aunt Molly to take the baby out.

Toshi had fun picking flowers and smelling them.

Our last night there, Brian, Jean, Avery and Miles came over. I thought Toshi would play with Miles a lot, but I think she really just wanted to run with Avery. It was pretty impossible to get a picture of them playing without anyone being blurry. (These are the best of the bunch.) It was fun to see them all together though!

Sorry this blog was so long and blah. I am not feeling well, but I wanted to get some pics up. More recap and photos to come once my mom sends me her pics. Happy October!
