Toshi Day
Posted by kara
We have a two year-old. In celebration of her birthday, we tried to make today super fun for her. After breakfast, she opened up her presents: more train tracks and a tunnel. She liked them. Then we all went outside and she rode her trike. Her feet finally reached the pedals, but she still wasn’t pedaling. I was just glad she stayed on the trike all the way to the playground.
After her nap, we took her to McDonald’s for her birthday. She ate a bite of hamburger and maybe a bite of apple. She wouldn’t even eat the french fries. I think she was too focused on the indoor McPlayground (or maybe she doesn’t like fast food). She ran around the playground and loved going on the slide even though it was for 3-5 year-olds. We dragged her away from McDonald’s and went home to get ready for the indoor pool. Toshi was all pumped to go swimming. (Me, not so much. It was cold today!) I was just about to put her in her swimsuit when Uncle Bill stopped by. He brought her balloons! Toshi excitedly ran around the house with them for the next few minutes. He left soon after, and we could not get her interested in the pool anymore. All she wanted to do was play with her balloons. Who could blame her?
After a while, we all headed out again to stop at the toy store. Paul and I both wanted to get her Percy the train for her train track. (We are giving her Thomas for her birthday party.) At the store, she picked out Toby as well, and we couldn’t say no. So she got two trains. We stopped at the grocery store and she picked out her birthday ice cream. She opted for chocolate, which is interesting because she’s never had chocolate ice cream and I don’t know how she knows what chocolate means.
At dinner, I pulled an AJ and read Toshi her birth story. I quickly learned that dinnertime is not a good time to read the birth story. Still I persevered and with much editing, got through the long, detailed story. After being such a good listener, Toshi got to blow out her candle and eat her chocolate ice cream. She wanted to keep blowing out candles. I think this was definitely a major highlight of her day. When I was saying good night to her, I asked her if she had a good birthday. She said, “I blow out candle.”
Thanks for all the birthday wishes. I’m sure she felt like an extra special girl today.
