Foiled!

Paul’s watch has been sitting around for at least 6 months, if not longer, because the battery was dead. So I decided to surprise him and get a new battery and then call it a Vday gift. (Yes, our gifts are cheap, but useful.) Anyway, Toshi and I made a trip of it. We went to the mall, dropped off the watch, grabbed a bagel, then picked up the watch. Of course, I explained what we were doing so that Toshi would understand our little mission. Then I just threw the watch back on the dresser, because I figured he hadn’t worn it in months, there was no way he’d check it to see if it was working.

Yesterday, he decides to wear his broken watch into work so he’d remember to put a battery in it. What a coincidence! Then he realized it was working and didn’t need to put a battery in it. At dinnertime, I heard Toshi talking to Paul about going to get Daddy’s watch fixed at the store with lots of watches. Sometimes it’s a little hard to understand her stories if you don’t know what exactly she is trying to say. So I figured that Paul wouldn’t understand what she was saying. But then, I peeked in the dining room and saw that Paul was wearing his watch! So I told him what we did. I was impressed that Toshi could explain it.

Another little story: I always tell Toshi how much I love her and ask her if she knows that Mommy loves her. Usually she just ignores me. Today I was spinning her around on her sit-and-spin and she was having lots of fun. She said something and I thought she said, “I’m so happy you love me.” I clarified and she said no. Then I asked if she said, “My mommy loves me.” She said no. Then I figured it was, “Auntie Karen loves me.” Nuts. I thought I was going to have a really sweet moment!
