Through a mother’s eyes

Posted by kara

I finally sent in Toshi’s preschool registration form. I’m not sure she’ll get in since I waited so long. I kept finding excuses to not send it in. Once I filled it out, I realized it was because I am slightly terrified of having her under someone else’s care. When I look at a room, all I see are the dangers and my imagination goes wild. I see kids pushing and rushing on the 7 uncarpeted stairs they have. I see older kids pushing her off the climb/slide structure onto the hard rubber mat (wish there were woodchips instead). I imagine her tipping over in a chair and hitting her head on something. I picture her stuffing her face with food and then being allergic to it. Or eating glue or paint because the teacher isn’t watching her. I see a kid hitting her in the eye with some small sharp toy. I imagine a mean kid not letting her play with them or teasing her, and making my poor Toshi feel bad.

I just worry that the teacher won’t give her enough attention. It’s hard to send her to school where I know that the teacher can’t love her like I do. I just have to keep telling myself that it’s only preschool 2 days a week, for a few hours. It’s not like I’m sending her to college. Thank goodness I have eons before that happens. (Because time will slow down, right?)
