“I love you Mom. But you’re a wuss.”

My friend Aggie wrote that on Facebook. Her mom said that Aggie’s animation made her cry. (It was an animation thanking her husband for being so sweet.)

I’ve been thinking about this idea of a weepy mom quite a bit lately. I used to totally dismiss my mom as being weepy… I’d tease her when she cried at Silent Night during the Christmas Eve service. I kind of ignored her while she cried randomly the month before I left for college. I never got emotional when I said goodbye to her or anyone else (other than Paul) even knowing I wouldn’t see her/them for weeks or months.

And then, it happened: pregnancy. At first I thought it was hormones, but once Toshi got to be two years old and I was still a weeping mess, I realized it was just karma. I not only cry at Silent Night, but I found myself crying at Away in a Manger! Ahhh! (Read the last three verses… it is emotional, right?) I cry when I think about my girls going to college in FIFTEEN years. Geez. And now I’m sad every time I say goodbye to my mom and dad.

I am pretty much an emotional crazy person. I know what it’s like to love someone. But to love your kids and be their protector, their champion, their mother… it’s a whole new world. A dazzling place I never knew. (I hope you get that reference or else it will sound soooo cheesy.)

A few days ago, I thought about how amazing my husband is. And then I got worried that my daughters might end up with someone that is anything less than amazing. I am pretty sure I started to cry about the possibility they might not be completely appreciated. Aggie’s animation, though, reminded me that lots of people end up with wonderful matches. Phew. I just need to relax. Enjoy life and have a few good cries.

And to all those preggies out there, especially those who have birthdays today, I’m so happy for you. (And I hope you cry too so I’m not the only crazy weepy mom out there.) (Just kidding…………………) (xoxo Ariana!)
