I’m a nerdy parent

I’m totally going to be that uncool parent. I bet the eye rolling will start well before teen years. However, right now, I’m not uncool. I’m awesome! Toshi shares my enthusiasm for kid activities and making holidays special. When I mentioned a health fair at the children’s hospital, she insisted we take her there. And she had a lot of fun (even thought it was slightly lame).
Anyway, I mention this because her preschool has a special day each month where they bring something in or wear something kooky. I love these days. I think it’s so fun. Toshi does too. And every time, I feel like such a nerd for letting Toshi go all out while the other kids hardly do it. Today was Wear Silly Shoes Day. On the board, it even said it could be slippers. So I let Toshi choose between her Hello Kitty slippers and her monkey slippers. She chose the monkey ones (probably because they are easier to run in, which she totally tested out). When we got to school, I checked out everyone’s shoes, and they all seemed so normal! Sure, one kid had on rainboots, but that’s not that silly in Seattle. Another day it was Backwards Day. So all the kids were supposed to wear their clothes backwards. I’m the only mom who let her kid wear backwards pants. Everyone else just had on a backwards shirt… And when it was Wear Red Day, Toshi wore red leggings and a red shirt. Once again, everyone else just wore a red shirt if they remembered.
I’m always worried Toshi will feel like a nerd, but she doesn’t. I hope she is always proud to do what she thinks is fun. And I hope this phase of being a fun kid doesn’t end too fast. [Pics/video later. Sorry! It’s been a busy couple of weeks.]
