Pig Party!
Posted by kara
Marf’s first birthday party was a pig party. I think I chose a pig theme partly because pigs are delicious… We had pulled pork sandwiches and hot dogs. UB brought his fab mac and cheese. AK had an awesome salad with homemade croutons. PJ brought cornbread. And Ciara brought guac and salsa–always so good! I also had watermelon, Rainier cherries, white bean dip with celery, Sun Chips, pink M&Ms, and pink punch. (Had to report the food because it’s been on my mind for a few weeks now! I always worry about the menu and the quantity. And I always feel like I’m pretending to be a grown-up throwing a birthday party…like my birthday parties aren’t professional enough or something. And this time my mom wasn’t here to help so I guess I passed the test? When will I feel like a grown-up?)
For the cake, I did a pudding cake because I knew she wouldn’t chew a normal cake. I made dirt pudding and topped it with pig cake balls. Toshi and Paul helped a ton.
Was Martha excited and impressed? No.
But someone else was…
I gave her some pudding and Paul not only took these pics, but also caught the plate.
He ended up feeding it to her on a spoon and she ate almost all of it! Marf likes chocolate…
Toshi opened up all of Martha’s presents and Martha didn’t pay much attention. I’m sure next year will be different!
At the end, Toshi was really pushing the favors (two pig cookies with pink M&Ms). She ran around making sure everyone had one. She even made Uncle Paul take two saying that one was for a friend. I think that was because I said she should give Frank two extra for his sons, Tynor and Kellen. So she told him the extras were for his friends.
Whew… it was a good party with good company. I think Toshi said she wants a cow party for her birthday. Cows are also delicious. I just hope she doesn’t expect me to make cake pops. I’m a little burnt out on them for now. Spreading that melted chocolate is a pain!
Marf, we love you!
