Zoo
Posted by kara
This weekend has been a very nice weekend. It started off on the right foot with Paul getting home from work early! Then we ordered pizza and watched the longest movie ever: The Great Escape. It was a good movie, but it was long and I was tired.
On Saturday, it was beautiful and we went to the zoo. With our new zoo membership, we skipped the long long line and got in the members line. Toshi made a friend or two and then we walked her toward the African safari. It was so cool! I’m not sure if I just haven’t been to the zoo in a long time, or if it is just a really nice, pretty zoo. I felt like it was so neat to see the zebras grazing while the giraffes walked toward us over a small hill. Toshi liked the ducks. Once we finally got Toshi to go in a forward direction, she started playing with the wire guard along the side of the trail. She loved it. I started to get out my camera and she ran away, tripped, and hit her head on the concrete. I panicked on the inside but Paul stayed calm, telling Toshi she was okay. She just had a tiny little scrape on her head, but I could just hear the thud in my mind over and over. I don’t know how toddlers survive so many falls and accidents!
The next cool exhibit was Tropical Asia. We found the elephants and one elephant immediately began peeing and pooping. It was kind of neat, but also kind of gross. Then we saw the orangutans. They were so much bigger than I remember! And their hair was long… it looked like it was brushed. They were pretty cool and I think Toshi enjoyed them too.

We saw a few more animals, but all of them paled in comparison to the new game Toshi and Paul made up. We’ll call this game Uppa Uppa Uppa. Toshi stands still. Paul walks away and then faces Toshi, squats down, holds his arms out and says, “Uppa uppa uppa” over and over. Toshi runs with a big smile to Paul. He lifts her up in the air. Then she dives for the ground so she can play again.
All in all, a great trip to the zoo. Later that afternoon I went to Ikea with my little bro. He picked out a ton of cool furnishings, and he might get them later for his new apartment. I can’t wait to see his apartment come together. I think it will be very nice.
