Backseat Driver

Toshi loves traffic lights. Most of you know that she loves playing, “Green means GO! Red means STOP!” [She runs around in a circle and someone holds up something red or green. Paul taught her a great breaks-screeching sound for the stopping part.]
Anyway, driving with her means you need to not be alarmed when she screams, “STOP! STOP! STOP!” at the top of her lungs. Yes, it means there is a red light, but it could be half a mile away. I keep trying to explain that we have to stop near the light, but that lesson hasn’t stuck yet. She also loves to encourage the driver to go faster, which prompted me to try to explain speed limits.
Today she opened her eyes and said, “Light!” Then she scrunched her eyes closed and said, “Dark!” I thought it was pretty cute.
I had my doctor appointment today. I should be in my 15th week of pregnancy. The doctor was talking to Toshi and asking her if she thought there was something inside my belly. Toshi wasn’t too sure. Then we heard the heartbeat and Toshi covered her ears with her hands. Afterwards, Toshi asked me, “Mommy, what’s in your belly?” I told her it was a baby friend for her and that she’d get to help take care of the baby. Heh. Let the Tom Sawyer-ing begin!
The doctor said I could schedule my ultrasound in a week and a half. I got really excited at how soon it was. So I called the ultrasound people to make an appointment and they said I needed to wait longer (like I originally thought). I was pretty disappointed because I got my hopes up that I’d find out the sex sooner, so I scheduled it for the soonest possible day they would let me, which is the 22nd of Feb. My parents happen to be in town that day, so it will be exciting (and helpful to have someone help with Toshi).
Last thing: Toshi loves birthday cake, ice cream, candles, and party hats. We had all of those things for my brother’s birthday and she was in heaven. She kept smiling and thanking me for her ice cream and cake. She even said, “Mmmmmm!” while she was chewing. She never does that!
There are a million other things she is doing, but I think that is enough for now!
