If it’s not one thing, it’s another

Today I had another ultrasound. Paul tried to keep Toshi occupied the whole time we were in the stuffy ultrasound room. I hope he got to see the baby, but after a while, Toshi kept saying it was time to go home. I don’t blame her. It was a loooong appointment. The technician was super friendly and super thorough. Plus she really liked her job, so she spent some time admiring the baby’s heart and other medical-term body parts that I’ve never heard of. She kept taking a bunch of pictures, and I thought I was going to get some of them, but she just gave me lots of profile pics. There was a funny one of the leg outstretched. Ah well.
Anyway, the reason why we had another ultrasound was to check on the kidney size. At the first ultrasound, they were concerned that the left kidney was too big. At this ultrasound, it still looked big to me, but they said it was stable and it looked like the problem was working itself out. However, now they are slightly concerned that the umbilical cord is attached at the edge of the placenta instead of more in the middle. The doctor said that sometimes that means a baby will be born with a lower birth weight (I think). So I should get another ultrasound in the beginning of June. I’m hoping that it’s all okay and it just means I get more ultrasounds than normal.
I wondered if this meant that I need to eat even more carefully because the baby might not be getting as many nutrients. (Not sure if this is at all true.) So I had a salad for lunch today. Then I got hungry and decided to reward my good eating with some chocolate ice cream. Kind of like how I feel like I’ve earned ice cream after doing my little treadmill walk. It may sound like I’m negating any progress, but I rationalize that I’d still be eating ice cream even without the salad or walk… right?
