I feel like I’m starting to know Toshi Anne better. It’s weird to be her mom and at 8 weeks, say that I’m starting to know her better. It’s just that things with her are constantly changing. I feel like sometimes I can even guess when she’s going to poop her diaper. And I have a new trick that I’m hoping will last for a while: If she gets fussy from being tired, I just move her legs up and down and sing her my “Pump Your Legs for Gas” song. That usually calms her enough to the point where she can fall asleep. Now if I can just figure out how to make her not cranky in the evenings…
Today Toshi and I were looking at each other in the eyes for a while and then we both smiled at each other at the same time. It was so cool! It was one of those moments when you feel like you just shared something special with this little person. That may not sound very significant… but just you wait. When it happens to you, I’ll say, “See?…See?… I told you so.” (Okay, I’ve been watching too much My So-Called Life.) (Oh, speaking of My So-Called Life, I totally side with the parents now. I’m old.)
Brother Paul came over last night. We ordered garlicky pizza from a place nearby and watched The Wire. Sometimes it’s hard to follow the police and druggie talk… as BP (bro Paul) put it, “It’s written in riddles.” So I only understand about 30% of what is going on, and I’m still really hooked on it! I think my goal for the weekend will be to track down the dvd 3 and watch it while eating good food.
I’m also trying to start preparing Toshi Anne for daycare. In addition to trying to get her to take naps in her playard (not working), I am trying to get her used to the Baby Bjorn so I can take her on the bus. A couple of days ago, I walked her for about 2 minutes, until I decided I dressed her inappropriately and that the winter sun really wasn’t out-warming the cold wind. I was just glad that she didn’t start crying as soon as I put her in it. Then today I walked her for about 5 minutes around the block. I figured out how to put her in her super cute outfit she got from Jess & Teddy and even put the shoes on. The whole time I felt like her hands were too cold and kept tugging on her pants to make sure her ankles were covered. I think she needs mittens or something? Longer sleeves?
Anyway, that is about it. I hope to do a fashion show soon (like Amy did with Liam), except she doesn’t like to get changed. So I am hoping to do it over the course of the next couple of weeks. I can usually manage one (or two if I’m lucky) clothes changes in the morning while she is still in a good mood and avoid the crying. I thought I’d share her outfit for today. I like to call it Hammer Pants.
