Sleepy family
Posted by kara
Yeah, it’s one of those posts. I never thought about sleep so much. Not even when I was tired from college all-nighters and dreamed of becoming a professional mattress tester. (Maybe because I somewhat chose to goof around and procrastinate rather than sleep.) Anyway, sleep. We need some.
Since November, Paul and I have been sleeping on our couch cushions on the living room floor. (We thought it was only going to be for a couple of weeks.) So Martha was in our room and Toshi was in her room. This allowed us to figure out how to get Martha to sleep more at night without bothering Toshi. (Although Toshi still woke up several nights and needed Paul to sleep in her room.)
Martha was finally doing a pretty good job of sleeping through the night after a few nights of ignoring her crying. She would sleep from 7:30 to 4:30 or 5. I’d wake up, feed her, then hand her off to Paul at 5:30 and catch another hour of sleep. And I thought that was tiring… hah!
With vacation looming, the thought of sharing a room with Martha made me panic a bit. We decided to get Martha used to sharing a room and moved her back into Toshi’s room. And since then, no one has gotten much sleep. Martha now cries uncontrollably for as long as we’ll let her. Toshi runs into our room, and tries to sleep through the crying. It’s been not so ideal. I keep trying to think of reasons and strategies for getting Martha to sleep through the night. Fan off, blanket off, night light on, stuffed animal in her crib, feed her, ignore her, rub her back… I know we’ll have to pick one and go with it. I’m just too tired to think about another sleepless night.
The good news is now that she’s not sleeping a few hours at night, she’s taking naps that last 30 mins to 2 hours! It’s crazy!
Other than that, everything is great. I’m looking forward to her first birthday. And after that will be vacation. And after that will be a family reunion. And after that, fall will be coming! Is it too early to be excited about apple cider at the pumpkin patch? I don’t think so.
