Seattle Wedding and Babies

Posted by kara

I can’t believe my uncle’s wedding has finally come and gone. He timed it well, so that I could meet two babies on my trip.

The most unfortunate thing was the lack of direct flights from Indy to Seattle. I’ve been way too spoiled with my direct SEA to DTW. We paid the same amount (maybe more) to have a layover at Salt Lake City. It was a bit long on the way out, but the trip back went much faster. And the girls were good, sleeping at least for half an hour both ways.

On to the good stuff: Friday morning, I took the girls on the bus to meet little June! …She was asleep. The. Whole. Time. Which is good. For her. So I talked to Mandy, Toshi talked to Luke, and Martha gobbled as many graham crackers as she possibly could. That about sums it up. It was way too short because we had to catch the bus and monorail to the Children’s Museum to meet up with Toshi’s bestie Ava.

The Seattle Center was really fun! It was so cute to see how happy all three girls were together. I caught up with Ava’s mom, Michele, who is definitely one of my favorite preschool moms.

Friday night we met up with the fam for a pre-wedding dinner. It was so good to see our Seattle peeps. I got to meet baby Nora, who was also asleep for most of the night. She looked pretty big, until I saw Brian holding her the next day. I tried to get Gus and Penelope to warm up to me… maybe it kind of worked by the end of the night. We also practiced our Footloose dance, which was fun.

Saturday was the big wedding day! Toshi and Martha looked so cute in their flower girl dresses (that would not iron) and shiny silver sandals. They held fresh pomanders (flower balls). I gave Martha hers about 5 minutes before the ceremony was supposed to start. She dropped it seriously three times within two minutes, and flowers kept falling out. Then Paul took it away and he dropped it. Oh goodness. Luckily there were still some flowers left on the pomander for her walk down the aisle. The girls waved and waved. It was pretty cute. Gus followed directions and walked very very slowly. Chris and UB said some really sweet things to each other, and there were lots of laughs. Colby, Katie and Kristen played instruments — it was really cool to hear them. PJT read the Beatles song “In My Life” which apparently he had never heard before. I’m not sure I buy that.

The wedding celebration was fun and fast. Mandy, Luke, and June came! We ate tons of Chinese food. Then I held June for a bit. She is such a sweet pie! Oh my goodness — her face is so adorable. And her hair is awesome with the faux hawk swoop. I can’t wait to see her personality start showing through. She is just so cool! And yet again, I felt like I didn’t have enough time to talk to Mandy. We left as the dancing was getting started.

Sunday we went out to breakfast and then I caught the bus to Mandy’s. I held June again until she got tired. Then she wanted her Dad to bounce her. 🙂 I talked to Mandy while June slept. It was nice to catch up a bit. Not sure I will ever feel like I got to talk to Mandy enough, but at least I got to hang out for a good chunk of time.

Then we hung out with my family for the rest of the day and ate a ton of sweets and snacks. It was a nice laid back time.

Monday, my aunt and Katie took us to the airport. The girls were pretty good (minus the constant arguing). We had a tight connection, but we managed to get a potty break in and still board the plane on time. We literally ran from one concourse to the other. I ran holding Marf and my heavy backpack and diaper bag. I felt like I was really pushing my limit (so out of shape). Toshi kept up and did a great job listening. The flights went pretty fast and I’m very grateful for our iPad.

Seattle was so good. Beautiful and fun. I miss it.
