Zoolights & A Figment of Marf’s Imagination

Posted by kara

It got cold here and even snowed. We braved the weather (we’re still readjusting) and went to the zoo to see Santa and some lights. Luckily, it was not crowded at all. So virtually no lines for anything, which is the best way to do it!

I have to say the zoo has upped their game. I am pretty sure the lights were unimpressively minimal when we went to see the lights 8 years ago. Now, it’s still no Cincinnati Zoo, but it’s pretty well lit. Santa was nice, the girls submitted their letters (both asking for a Barbie dream house and a Barbie gymnastics set), did a scavenger hunt in the butterfly house, watched a 3D movie, watched a dolphin show, and saw all the lights. Good times.

Onto Marf’s imaginary bad boy. It started sometime in the past couple of months. I’d tell her or Toshi not to do something, like don’t stand on chairs, and Marf would say, “I saw a boy stand on his chair!” So I’d think she was talking about a boy at school.

After a month, I noticed she was saying it a little more. I’d tell her not to do something, and she said she saw a boy do this or that. I still thought it was a preschool boy.

Finally, one day, she was getting undressed and she kicked off her “unders” (what she calls underwear) and it landed on her pillow. I said, “Marf! Do not kick off your underwear.” She told me she saw a boy do it. What? No. Ohhhh…. this boy is nonexistent. Yeah, I finally caught on. I am pretty sure it started as her maybe actually seeing a boy do something. I must have responded in a way she liked, so she kept making it up.

Now, she is saying she saw a boy do something she is obviously thinking about. Like maybe she has ketchup at dinnertime, so she’ll say, “I saw a boy put ketchup in his milk!” Or something she knows she shouldn’t do. Oh BOY!
