Stars

Chances are, there is a star by your name. In Gmail, I mark every email that I intend to reply to with a star. And if there isn’t a star, I’ve checked your blog a million times, waiting for you to update (but I know you are trying to move, or have moved, or have a house already to take care of). And if you don’t have a blog, please make one.

Anyway, things are busier than I thought they would be. Well… maybe not busy… but time-consuming. I thought there would somehow be more time for me to clean and do other stuff. And I thought I’d have more energy. Maybe later, once it becomes more routine for me.

On Monday, Toshi and I met up with our new friends: Lucretia and Yuuma. They were kind enough to drive to our neighborhood to meet up at a coffee shop. Yuuma is soooo tiny and cute. She just slept the entire time. What a sweet baby! It made me miss that time a little bit. Anyway, it was nice to get to talk to another mom. I hope we meet up again soon– it really gives me something to look forward to. Hopefully we can get our husbands to take a lunch with us. (They work together.)

Tuesday was kind of a weird day. Toshi and I hung out and she seemed very sensitive. I was cheering for her because she gave me a five and she started to cry. Then whenever I walked away from her, she started to cry. Even if I was just in the kitchen (which is basically the same room as the living room), she would feel anxious. Paul said maybe she was tired or maybe she isn’t used to someone being around her so much. I’m trying to find the right balance of playing with her and giving her some space to explore on her own.

The newest thing I have to be careful of is that she likes to try to roll off the quilt and lick the carpet. I have no idea why… maybe because the carpet is cheap and fluff comes off? I even did a test to make sure she wasn’t just licking it by chance. I put my hand down where her face would normally go down, over the carpet. She licked my hand, picked up her head, and tried to position her face to the side of my hand. I’d then move my hand, she’d lick it, and move her head again. I need to start laying down more blankets.

Toshi is also saying, “Dadadadadadada.” When she is in her screaming mode, sometimes the only way to get her to stop is to say, “Dadadadada” and then she’ll say it back. Or sometimes I just mock-scream back to her and it makes her smile.

We also want to welcome little Benjamin Joseph (love love love that name) to the family. First boy on Paul’s side! We look forward to seeing him in July. I also can’t wait to hear from my friend Tim to see how he is enjoying his new status of Dad… He has a new little girl, Alice Jane. So exciting!

Here is Toshi trying to put stars on her stacking thing.
