Baby steps

I read that you have to let kids do things for themselves so that they develop a sense of confidence rather than dependence. I thought, “Duh– no problem.”
Today I looked over at Toshi and she stood up by herself, using the ground only to balance herself. I was very impressed. And then she took 3 steps towards me. I nearly dove to catch her [there were blocks at her feet and I didn’t want her eye to hit a block’s corner] but I didn’t get there in time. She just plopped forward and caught herself with her arms. I thought that my reaction was pretty over protective. Once again, she is less afraid than I am. I guess she doesn’t need my safety net. Maybe just a cleaner house.
Also! I’ve been playing with her hair and I think she can almost do stuff with it! It is still too thin for hairbands, but maybe those baby barrettes would stay in? I tried hairbands and it was hard to get them tight enough around her tiny pigtails. She’ll probably just pull out whatever I put in her hair and put it in her mouth… hmmm… choking hazard…
