SCREAM! SCREAM! LOUDER!

Posted by kara

That is a lyric from one of the Baby Loves Hip Hop songs. And I think Toshi is really taking it to heart. She does a lot of screaming lately. If she wants something, she may grunt and whine, but usually she just screams. It can get pretty annoying, but I guess she’s annoyed that she can’t have what she wants right away. Anyway, we keep encouraging her to use her words, and saying what we think she wants. So it will go something like this:

Toshi: EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
Me: Toshi, what do you want? Would you like to be UP?
Toshi: EEEEEEEEEE!
Me: Up?
Toshi: Uppa

Maybe I’ll look back on these days and miss them once she is asking for everything by name. Ah well. No one ever said parenting was easy.

And I can put up with all the screaming in the world for some of Toshi’s little kisses. They are so wonderful! She can’t quite do the smacking noise yet, but she will press her open mouth on you and say, “Mmmmmwah!” I love it.

Yesterday I talked to my buddy Laura. She is completely preggie and could pop a baby out any day now. We were catching up and she reminded me of how uncomfortable those last few weeks are. I felt so bad for her! I remember how sometimes there was pretty much nothing I could do to be comfortable. Man… I don’t know if I’ll ever be ready to be pregnant again. Maybe I’m the kind of person who just is never ready for that. We were also talking about how we both thought 2-2.5 years was good spacing for kids, and how now we are rethinking that. (Actually, I feel like she may have told me she wanted them 1.5 years apart??) It’s hard to let go of expectations I created when I was young and held onto for years. Maybe that is the fun part… surprising yourself with change? I just have to convince myself that it’s okay if life happens differently than I wanted. At least I still get lots of Toshi kisses, right?
