Our sucky baby

Posted by kara

Toshi had her first doctor appointment on Monday. It was the first time I had stepped outside of the apartment since we got home. I didn’t realize that it was so cold. When we got to the doctor’s office, I noticed that Toshi was the only one under the age of 2 without a hat on… another little parenting lesson. Paul tried to assure me that her hair was keeping her warm. Better than no hair, right?

The appointment went well. She is pretty active and a good healthy baby. She was almost at her birth weight too. However, since there was concern about her getting enough food, the doctor suggested I go to a lactation consultant. I was nervous about meeting a lactation militant (much like my cousin Amy had to face), but I wanted to make sure everything was okay.

On Tuesday, we stuck a hat on Toshi and took her to see the lactation lady. The lady was quite nice and I liked her no-pressure, every-baby-is-different, do-what-it-takes kind of attitude. She said that we had a very sucky baby and everything was perfect. And since we have such a sucky baby, she said we could probably give her a pacifier for short amounts of time and it wouldn’t mess things up. I was so pleasantly surprised that she suggested that. Plus Toshi had even gained more weight since her doc appt. I felt so relieved.

Grandma Kathy arrived on Tuesday as well. She ran through the door, washed her hands, and grabbed the baby from Paul. I think she was a bit eager to see her granddaughter. Toshi loves her grandma and is a pretty good baby for her. Except for the time when Toshi kept giving Grandma Kathy the birdie… We haven’t gotten around to teaching her manners yet.

Other good news:

My mom has been helping us out a ton at night and around the house.

Toshi slept straight for 3 hours last night!

My mom is making homemade applesauce.

Today Toshi will be a week old.

My bro Paul got Mario Galaxy for the wii.

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving and I can eat anything I want!

I hope everyone has a great holiday weekend. We miss you all (wish Dad was here too) and we hope that soon we will be better at getting back in touch with everyone.
