Toshi likes Elmo

We have two Elmo DVDs. Toshi will now point to the TV and say, “Elmo!” This means she wants us to start the Elmo DVD. This is a bit of a relief from the constant watching of Toshi home videos on my computer. Still, those DVDs are short and I did wake up yesterday morning with Elmo’s Song in my head.

She is also making this face a lot. Usually when something is surprising, like a loud noise.

And she is liking her toys more. She gives lots of her toys kisses.

Today we went to the children’s museum, compliments of John & Elise (they gave us a family pass for Christmas). Family Fun Day strikes again! It was pretty crowded. The little kids area was for ages 0-3 years. I think that was a little too bad because it seemed like a lot of the older kids were running around and jumping all over the place– not paying attention to the small kids in the area. There were quite a few times that I had to bite my tongue from yelling at a kid. I was surprised Toshi made it out of there without any kicks to the face or fingers stomped. We checked out the other areas and they were pretty neat (and crowded). They had some really good pretend areas that I would have loved when I was younger. Overall, it was a good time, and I’m sure it would be even better on a weekday.

Last night I went to the JACL installation banquet. It was nicely done and the speaker was very interesting. He told us about some of the people that influenced the Japanese American redress. If he were a history teacher, he’d be the good kind that tells you all the interesting stories that make up an important event. AND I got to meet Fumiko Hayashida. I felt like I had met an icon. I used her picture on one of my projects for school. It was my favorite picture and I never even thought I would ever meet her in person. There is definitely something about the Nisei. They are incredible and have done so much without seeking any gratitude. I am so proud of my grandparents because they embody the Nisei spirit.
