Virtual Baby Shower

Posted by kara

Today we had the webcam baby shower. As Heather joked in her card: we didn’t coordinate very well since everyone was in Ohio and I was in Washington. So our solution was for everyone to gather at my mom’s house, and watch me open gifts on video iChat. It was the best we could do and definitely interesting! On our side, the Cunninghams came over with food and gifts. I think on my mom’s side, Ann helped prepare everything and Paul T. made some fancy stuff for drinks. Of course, my mom did a bang-up job of making all the details and food perfect. As you can see from the pics, it looks like they had delicious cake and cookies, and maybe had some kind of fabulous confections as favors. I think there were also salads and sandwiches or some other fun shower foods…

Anyway, the webcam part of it was fun. I opened the gifts and Kristen held them close to the camera for Ohio to see. We had a little trouble hearing what was going on on the other side, but overall, I think it worked. At the end, we asked for everyone to walk in front of the camera so we could see them. Oh, and Avery had fun seeing himself on the TV and seeing his pal Kristen. He did some dances and talked to us a little bit. So cute!

Paul and I got much-needed baby stuff — we are so grateful for everyone’s generosity. It is a huge help and we just cannot thank everyone enough. I wish I could have been in Ohio for the shower (especially to see Grandma and Auntie Haru), but at this point, flying would be a bad idea for me.

It was great seeing all of the familiar faces. (Molly and Barb drove up!) We miss everyone a lot and can’t wait to bring little Miss Buttermilk to Ohio so she can meet all of her wonderful family and friends.
