Music class

Today I took Toshi to her first music class (courtesy of my parents). We braved the cold weather and walked a few blocks to the Gymboree. As soon as we entered, I knew Toshi would love it. There were kids running around and lots of indoor play things in their gym. We took off our shoes and joined everyone in the music room.

I think there were about 15 babies, ranging from 6 months to 16 months. Toshi was one of the older kids. There were a few others that seemed about her height and they were walking around as well. I compared Toshi to them, and it seemed like Toshi’s head was a lot bigger and she was also a little thicker… er… “healthier” as my uncle would say.

Anyway, she loved it and spent most of the time wandering around, seeing what everyone was up to. We did a lot of singing which reminded me that I am not a good singer at all. I tried to sing as quietly as I could, right into Toshi’s ear so that only she would hear me. We also did a lot of clapping (rhythm also not my strong suit) and dancing. Toshi was very advanced and did some of her own clapping and dancing. I think she did a really good job! There were also shakers handed out to the babies and later bouncy gym balls. The toddlers did a good job of stealing the items from the smaller babies and it became a juggling act of parents quickly passing their kid’s item to the baby in need.

Overall, it was very fun but very tiring. 45 minutes is definitely the limit! When we got home, Toshi kept laying her head down. I wish I would have put her down for a nap then because…

… she’s not taking her second nap anymore! Ahhh! I hope I am jumping to conclusions. Yesterday and today she did not take her second nap. She has done this a few other random days, but it’s worrying me because it was twice in a row and I know she should be sleepy. I am going to keep trying to put her down to see if she will take her second nap. If she doesn’t for several days, then I’ll have to rethink her napping schedule. Ugh. It’s so nice to have a morning nap for a shower and an afternoon nap to get something done. *Please be a fluke.*

As a tiny side note, I was skimming my Parents magazine and I saw a blip about A Powerful Noise. It’s a documentary about three women working to better their communities (showing in theaters on March 5th). Then it said, “If everyone reading this magazine makes even a fraction of the effort these women have made- imagine how much we could improve the world our children will inherit.” Ever since Toshi was born, I think a lot more about how our actions now will affect her future and her grandchildren’s future. For some reason, that quote struck a chord with me and I feel like I have to make more of an effort to conserve and help out… for my little Tosherton.
