New Year, New Soup (for Toshi)

Posted by kara

So far, this new year has started off on a good foot… even though we are still on Eastern Time. Since we woke up at 5am EST and then had our lovely 5 hour flight, we decided to put Toshi to bed at 6:30 and then put ourselves to bed at 7:50. Paul was flipping through the tv stations before bed and I mentioned how it was funny that we didn’t even watch any of the New Year’s program. I think he looked for it, and then realized it wasn’t even on yet! We were going to bed that early…

Anyway, we woke up at 4:30 this morning. I offered to wake up with Toshi, and Paul reminded me that I had to wake up anyway to make the good luck soup. I was pleased that it doesn’t take long to make the soup. And I liked the way I peeled the carrot into the soup; it was so thin that no one minded eating it. The best part of this early morning was that we all ate our soup and no one choked on the mochi! I cut Toshi’s mochi into tiny bits and she loved it. (We kept telling her to chew a lot, but I’m not sure she chewed much at all.) Then she ate the carrots and picked up the bowl to drink the soup! She even asked for seconds. YAY!
