Martha’s Two Months

Posted by kara

Martha had her two month appointment today. It went well… she didn’t fuss or cry until she got her shots. Then her face turned hot pink. Before she got her shots, I told her that it was going to be a little owie and that I loved her. She gurgled back that she loved me, too. (It really did kinda sound like that!)

Her stats: 11 lbs. 7.5 oz (75th percentile), 23″ long (75th percentile), head is 40.5 cm (80th percentile). I knew she was longer than Toshi!

I looked up Toshi’s two month blog post. It was interesting to read… I could tell I was more stressed about Toshi fussing at the doctors and thinking people were judging me as a mom. Anyway, here are Toshi’s stats: “She is now a healthy 11 lbs. 6 oz. I think she is 22 inches long. That puts her in the 50% for length and 75% for weight! Her head is in the 50-75%.”

What I wrote about being a parent for two months:

Before two months ago, I had a general idea of what kind of parent I would be. Turns out, I was wrong. I find myself doing things that I promised myself I wouldn’t do. Not that one way is better than another… the point is that you just have to do what you are comfortable with! (Something Amy keeps reminding me.) And you don’t know what that is until you are in the thick of it.

Top Ten Things I Am Surprised I Do:

10. Give pacifier to her before she was 4 weeks old.

9. Feel really bad when she is crying. (I thought I’d be tough and rational about her crying, but it does get to me.)

8. Think that her sleeping is just as good as when she is awake. (I hope that doesn’t sound mean. She is so much happier when she gets a lot of sleep.)

7. Feed her to comfort her, even if I think she isn’t really hungry.

6. Plaster her pictures all over my computer and be surprisingly pleased whenever I see them.

5. Clutter the living room with big baby toys/play gym/playard. You can’t even walk through our living room without tripping on something.

4. Watching TV and movies with the closed captioning on. Making minimal noise when she is asleep.

3. Doubt myself as a good parent. I always thought I’d be a great mom until Toshi was actually born. Then I felt nothing but questions.

2. Not eating when I’m hungry. Eating only when there is time to eat. Eating so fast that I don’t taste the food.

1. Talking about myself in the third person. “Does Mommy love Toshi? Yessss!”

My new Top Seven Things I Am Surprised I Do:

7. Not hate these first two months.

6. Not feel like I’m just trying to buy two more minutes of non-cry time all day and night long.

5. Secretly love holding Martha for her nap while Toshi naps.

4. Not mind when Martha cries.

3. Feel like Martha is super portable and easy to take on errands. (It’s just when you add that running toddler to the mix…)

2. Lose my patience twice as fast. (I’m working on this.)

1. Admire Paul even more than before (didn’t know it was possible). He is non-stop and never gets a break. (I’m also going to work on getting him more breaks.)

The end.
