Oh, Toshi
Posted by kara
Preschool went fine, but they didn’t push the potty use (because it was the first day), so I think they don’t know how resistant Toshi is. I think I can keep taking her to school until they tell me not to. She seemed to like school, but gave us no details on what she did. She mentioned painting, which would explain the orange and blue on her face.
Now that Toshi is almost three, she completely gets that playing is more fun than naptime. She keeps telling me, “I DON’T LIKE NAPS!” And then she waits for a response, as if that is a valid reason not to nap. Reasoning with a toddler is completely useless. If you give a reason, her response is, “Why?” or “I DON’T LIKE NAPS!” So I often bust out my serious voice and tell her to Get. Into. Bed. Now.
So I put her down and hope she stays in her room, because I’ve got Martha strapped to me and I can’t physically make Toshi do anything anymore. And like I said, reasoning does not work. Bribes sometimes work, but only as a band-aid to the situation. I can’t give her ice cream every day! (Or can I?)
I know I shouldn’t laugh, but today she stood in front of the TV, facing me with her arms outstretched to the sides saying, “Block TV so you can’t turn it off!” (She often says what her action is in a monotone voice.) I laughed as I turned off the TV with the remote. As I left her room at naptime, she threw me a “Marina cupcake” (I’m Marina from Fresh Beat Band) and as I closed the door and walked away, I heard her yell, “PLAYYYYY!” Oh man. Welcome to my world. It’s so funny and not funny at the same time.
