Three Months Old

Posted by kara

Tada! We made it! The magical age of three months when finicky newborns become chubby babies that sleep through the night (mostly). Ah, I’ve been looking forward to this date since I found out I was pregnant. And now it’s here… and it feels strangely anti-climatic. Maybe because Martha is actually a really good baby and has been doing pretty good with her sleeping. Ironically, she seems a touch fussier the past few days. Which is still probably pretty darn good behavior.

Okay, so she’s sleeping through the night. Her preferred sleeping pattern is to be rocked to sleep at 8, wake up around 10/10:30 for a feeding, then sleeps until 7:30am. I have tried putting her down around 9, and she ends up waking up at some point in the night to feed. I haven’t figured out her daytime naps. I need to pay more attention. She seems to prefer to sleep almost all day, but only in someone’s arms. Sometimes I can trick her and put her in her car seat. Sneaky!

Toshi says things like, “Really please?” and “Tool!” [cool]. She has also yelled at Martha to “BE QUIET!” when Martha starts crying during bedtime. And for the longest time, she likes to talk in this funny accent that is like an over-exaggerated Southern/goofy accent. I wonder if people think this is how she talks. Today one of her preschool friends wanted to give her a hug good-bye. Yay for RJ! (Love that this is just random [sometimes incomplete] sentences put together in paragraph form.)

So, I realized that at this point last time, I was back at work. Which means I was wearing normal clothes. And I still am not wearing normal shirts. Partially because I just want to wear the heck out of my maternity clothes (and not worry about baby drool), but mainly because I still look 5 months pregnant, only saggy. Heh. I decided that it was time… time to count calories. (Ahhhhh!) I’ve never ever done it before and couldn’t tell you how many calories were in anything or how many calories I consumed in a day. Those were the days! I now know that my half hour brisk walk burned enough calories to eat ONE piece of BREAD. It turns out that my high-carb/cookie/chocolate diet was loaded with calories. What a bummer. I’m not sure how long I’m going to count calories (using an iPhone app on the iPad), but it has definitely encouraged me to add more veggies (super low-cal!) and cut back a bit on my unhealthy snacks. Although I did learn that I’m quite a binge eater. At some point, I hope I have time to exercise so maybe I won’t have to feel guilty eating 3 bowls of cereal and 5 cookies a day.

Don’t worry, my feelings won’t be hurt if you just skipped to this part:
