Gifts

Remember how excited and happy I was when Toshi started using the potty for poop? Well, she really picked up on my happiness. She told me that for my birthday, she was going to give me poop and pee. She thinks they make wonderful gifts and surprises. (She always calls us in and makes us close our eyes before she reveals the poop in the potty. Then she jumps up and yells, “Surprise!”)

And maybe she is right. I do get very happy when Martha has her big poop before her last feeding. That means she may fall asleep during her final feeding, which is always better than trying to bounce her to a drowsy state.

Anyway, I was hoping to blog about the results of Martha’s kidney ultrasound, but I haven’t heard from the doctor yet. I’m not really nervous about it. I figure it will probably be okay, and if it isn’t, then the doctors will figure out a way to make it better. My heart feels a little heavy today, as I also wait to hear an update on our family friend’s health. He has been trying to slow pancreatic cancer with radiation treatment, and today he was supposed to learn the results of the treatment. As he said when he learned of Martha’s birth: “What a wonderful gift life is.” It is, and I think about it a lot around this time of year.

Toshi, Martha, and Paul are the best gifts ever… and I guess poop and pee are good too.
