Grabby and Crabby?

Martha is getting more control over her hands. She is grabbing my chin/mouth/hair/earrings. She’s also doing the thing where she lifts up her feet, and then SLAMS them down. I’m surprised she doesn’t have bruised heels.

Also new: stranger danger! I think she’s getting a little anxious around others. She’s no longer all smiles when someone talks to her. Or maybe there is just too much hustle bustle going on. Or maybe she’s just tired? It just seems like she’s becoming slightly less portable/easy-going. That’s okay. She’s been super easy so far, and is still pretty good. I can just tell that she’s growing from a sleepy newborn into a more aware baby.

The girls are sharing a room, and it’s going okay. Sometimes I can’t tell which one is awake in the middle of the night. And sometimes it’s both! Last night Toshi woke up and I lay down with her and she fell right asleep. Then before I fell asleep, Martha woke up. So I got up and fed her. It was nice that they took turns right in a row being awake. Gotta maximize my sleep!

Also, I don’t want to jinx anything, but TOSHI IS USING THE POTTY! I’m very excited and soooo happy. I never knew that potty training could be such a big deal. It was seriously like she just decided one day that she was okay with underwear and using the potty. Huh. She has worn underwear a few days now and even wore them to school! She even wears them at naps (which is still a gamble). And last night she kept her pull-up dry. The finish line is still far away, but at least she’s finally started the race.

My parents and David/Molly/Gus are here. It’s been fun, but I’m not making much progress with Gus. At least he doesn’t totally cringe when I get near him. He is so cute and funny. Today I left the girls with Oba and Oji and went downtown for an eye appointment and lunch with Paul. We spent most of the hour walking around downtown from one crowded restaurant to another. So finally we settled on a quick Thai place. It was just nice walking around with him and seeing him in the day! Aw.
