Christmas Eve

Today Toshi said she was a little grumpy because Santa wasn’t here yet. It’s really hard explaining time to her, especially since she can’t tell the difference between naps and nighttime sleep.

Anyway, we have a lovely Christmas Eve. Toshi and I met up with the Cunninghams for the family service. Katie and Kristen did a great job reading at the service! We came home and ate the Christmas Tree-shaped pizza I made. (I love doing stuff like that.) And then Toshi wrote her letter to Santa and picked a gingerbread cookie for him.

She was really concerned that we’d light a fire in the fireplace (even though we never have here). And then she was worried that Santa would hurt himself on the candles that are inside the fireplace. My heart felt a little sad about her getting worked up over Santa’s well-being. Toshi also asked what happened if you weren’t at home on Christmas. Would Santa not bring you presents? I was impressed she could think of that situation. (Maybe I should be worried that she’s already thinking of the workings of Santa.) Paul explained that Santa would bring the gifts to the house you are at.

Alas, my Santa threats will have to come to an end for the next 11 months. I particularly enjoyed playing good cop/bad cop with Santa. “I hope Santa doesn’t think you are whining. I’ll try to tell him you’re a good girl, but he might hear the whining and think you’re being naughty.” Man, I’m a mean mommy. Aw well. Toshi really knows how to push my buttons. By naptime, we are always butting heads. I hope this isn’t an indicator for her teenage years…

Okay. Merry Christmas! We send all of you love.
