Future falls

And so it begins: the period of time when I catch my breath every time the baby falls down. [I still sometimes worry when Toshi falls while running, but she gets hurt a lot less nowadays.] This period of time slowly starts with the rolling. Now that baby is mobile-ish, I will block her with pillows. Now, I can sit Martha up and she can pretty much sit up on her own. There is a lot of tipping though. She’ll reach for a toy and face-plant right into the carpet. Or she’ll just slowly tip to one side. Or she’ll decide she’s had enough and lay backwards. That is why I surround her with pillows (or stuffed animals) when she’s sitting on her own.

[And yes, her cheeks are soooo soft and plump!]

The real terror comes from when the baby has learned to pull up and then when she starts walking. And then it increases when she starts running on asphalt while looking at her feet. So many falls in the future. I’m hoping for no chin/face/head scrapes. I just remember having about 30 heart attacks a day, watching Toshi fall and narrowly missing a sharp corner or a face-plant on asphalt. Oh boy. I guess I have time before that worry begins though.

Toshi is really a big help with her sister. She is so willing to bring me stuff I ask for and hand Martha toys. She also keeps Martha company (sometimes). And just the sound of Toshi’s voice makes Martha smile. Even if the voice is yelling or crying.

Unfortunately, Martha has been waking up at 3am. I feel so tired. She has been going back to sleep after I feed her. Last night, though, Paul had to bounce her to sleep. The doctor said I can’t let her cry it out because by 3am, she’s been sleeping for 8 hours and that’s considered “sleeping through the night.” Yeah, I guess. Zzzzzzzz. I almost fell asleep today while playing school bus with Toshi and Martha. Luckily, Toshi got out her horn whistle and made the most lovely wake-up music.
