Margarine

Posted by kara

For some reason, tonight I looked up if margarine was healthier than butter. I always buy butter because I feel like it’s more natural than margarine and, yeah, it tastes so much better. I’m hypochondriacally convinced that my cholesterol is high, since I haven’t been careful about it since high school (when I was diagnosed with high cholesterol, but then cut out eggs and it got normal).

Anyway, I found out that butter is pretty bad for cholesterol, as is stick margarine! Tub or liquid margarine is better. Trans fat is bad. (In my mind, I thought trans fat wasn’t as bad as saturated fat, but it’s just as bad.) Too many omega-6 fatty acids are bad if not balanced with omega-3 fatty acids. Oils are high in calories, but better for cholesterol. It makes more sense in this article:

Just thought I’d share in case it could help anyone else.

Speaking of butter, here is Chef Toshi:

And ol’ squinty-eyes Martha:

As much as it hurts my ears, I try to let it slide because it makes Martha so happy. Crazy voice: [Toshi just woke up from her nap, so the crazy voice is a little tamer than normal.]
