Friends, Babies, Love

Posted by kara

This weekend, my parents flew in and watched the girls for two days and two nights. Paul and I flew to Denver for a fun anniversary/baby/wedding trip.

Friday we stayed at fancy pants Hotel Monaco. I liked all the patterned carpet and the super awesome hotel lobby ceiling.

We had a nice cocktail hour at the hotel then walked to dinner. I had the most delicious Mahi Mahi with an interesting onion/asparagus side and delicious mashed potatoes. Paul’s crab enchilada was delicious too, but a tad too spicy for me. Then I ordered the banana empañadas to go. Since it came with coconut ice cream, I asked for the ice cream to be brought out so I could eat it before we left. I asked the waiter if that was weird and he said yes! Can you believe that? He was supposed to say no!

Anyway, on Saturday we ate at Corner Bakery for a nice quick breakfast. Of course I had to get the steel cut oatmeal.

Next up: Baby Sam! I was so excited to meet this ball of cuteness. I LOVED holding this baby. He is so big and cuddly. He has one of the cutest smiles! Plus, he was so easy going and happy! I think he picked it up from his parents, Gret and Russ. It was great catching up with them too. I also got to see Elsa (Mrs. Kay, aka my second mom) and Joe! Always good to see them.

Next up: Z3! I called Anita to try to meet up before the wedding. When I saw her, I was a little surprised at seeing her pregnant. I knew she was pregnant, but I momentarily forgot that she would have a big ol’ belly. I begged that baby to kick for me, but Z3 refused the whole night. 🙁

On the way back to the hotel, Paul and I stopped at the batting cages to settle an age old bet. I have always bragged that I was quite the 12-year old softball batter. He had never seen me bat because I haven’t done it in about 20 years! Well… I batted better than Paul thought I would and worse than I thought I would. Wah wah…

We got to the wedding and I immediately started taking pics for this blog post. You can thank Jamie. (And I realize I should have brought my real camera. DOH)

Everyone had their own special Valentine name card, complete with a message from the couple. LOVED my bee. Savy and I used to have a Buzz the Bee.

Instead of a guestbook, they had a tree with tags signed by all the guests. Beautiful!

Beautiful tables: Ribbon, spool holders, flowers, pretty napkins.

Savy’s family (I cried when I saw my Savy bride):

My favorite part of the wedding was when the couple described each other. Eoin nailed it. He described the Savy that I know and love. It was so good to know that he appreciates what makes her special. And what Savy said about Eoin, was exactly what I gathered from the bits and pieces that I hear about him and from hanging out with him. It was so sweet.

The reception was fun! Food was delicious, music was fun, scones were awesome, lots of good stuff.

When I saw Savy and Eoin on stage, you better believe I stormed up there, stalking the rockstar bride. I tried to get a respectable dress pic for Jamus, so I made Savy turn around. She wore a gorgeous dress with some beading on the top, styled straps, asymmetrical rouching of the mesh overlay… Okay, Jamie is way better at describing dresses. It fit Savy perfectly, who by the way, looked AMAZING and glowed with happiness.

Plus I got to see these guys. YES!

I missed the girls, and loved all the pics my mom (and Frank) posted. I was excited to finally be greeted like Paul is greeted every night when he walks through the door. I pictured Toshi and Martha running into my arms, screaming, “MOMMY!” Well, I walked through the door first, saw Toshi, crouched down with my arms held open, and she… ran past me, screaming, “DADDY!” Ugh. But I knew Marf would be excited to see me. So I pulled Marf into a hug, but she backed away and held my face, examining it to make sure it was me! Not quite the welcome I expected, but whatever. A successful weekend all around.
